August October 1901.
With reference to the recommendation contained in paragraph 5 of my Despatch No. 350 of the 24th August last and to your reply No. 325 of the 1st ultimo, I have the honour to inform you that the Nursing Association asks that instead of being presented with a four-roomed house for the accommodation of the private Nurses they may be given the capital sum of $12,000 for investment in a manner approved of by the Government, and that the income derived therefrom may be applied by the Association in defraying the cost of providing rooms for the Nurses at the Peak Hospital.
It is pointed out by the Secretary of the Association, in a letter of which I attach a copy, that the temporary expedient of accommodating the Nurses in the Peak Hospital has proved so satisfactory that they are desirous of the arrangement being made permanent. I see no objection to the adoption of this proposal and recommend it to you for favourable consideration.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN,
I have the honour to be,
Sir,

Humble servant,
